Dental Checkup
If you haven't been to the dentist in a while, we invite you to schedule a check-up. We treat patients of all ages and focus on improving both the health and appearance of your smile. We understand not everyone is excited about dental care — busy schedules, lack of insurance, or just forgetting are all common reasons people go years between visits. If that's you, you're not alone: according to USA Today, 34% of Americans skip their annual dental visit. That said, going without a check-up puts you at risk for a range of health issues, so we encourage you to take an hour for the sake of your oral health and long-term quality of life.
Why You Need One
There's a direct link between visiting the dentist and keeping your natural teeth. A 2014 Gallup study found a striking pattern: in Connecticut, where 74% of adults saw a dentist in the past year, adult tooth loss was only 9%. In West Virginia, where just 57% visited annually, that number was 37%. If you do lose teeth, we can help with implants, bridges, or dentures — but regular preventive visits mean you likely won't need to.
A checkup also helps you avoid a toothache or infection severe enough to cost you work. The CDC estimates 164 million work hours are lost every year to dental-related issues. Skipping checkups because you feel you don't have time for the dentist often backfires into losing more time later to a bigger problem.
What Happens at Your Dental Check-Up
We complete checkups gently and comfortably, especially if dental phobia or fear of what we might find is part of why you've been avoiding it. You'll be given a drape and goggles, we'll take images of your teeth and gums to check for anything under the surface, and perform a visual inspection of your gums and every tooth — looking for infection, decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. If we find something, we'll discuss treatment options with you, and minor cavities can sometimes be treated the same day. We'll always explain a procedure before starting it, and we'll clean your teeth before you leave so there's no lingering plaque or bacteria.
The Benefits of Coming in Now
We want you to come in at the first sign of discomfort — even a slight toothache or gum irritation. Catching a problem early usually means removing a small decayed area before it grows and spreads, rather than facing a dental emergency later. We'll work within your schedule to get you seen.
Why You Shouldn't Wait for Dental Care
Anxiety, time, and cost are all real reasons people put off a checkup — we still don't recommend it. Coming in now, even without any discomfort, lets us clear built-up plaque and bacteria, catch cavities before they form fully, and prevent gum disease before it starts. Whatever the reason you've been away, we welcome you back to protect and improve your oral health.
